Growing up as a child in the Caribbean I loved watching Carnival. The parade and performances were great but I marveled at the intricate designs of the costumes. Since then, I've watched Caribbean Carnival Costumes evolve to being even more intricate and innovative. Playing Mas - dancing and marching in costume during the parade - to celebrate history and heritage is now intertwined with making a powerful fashion statement with your costume. Many of these costumes are handmade and take weeks to complete. The Trinidad & Tobago Carnival is one of the worlds most renowned carnivals and the annual parade took place this past Monday. As expected, the costume designs show skill, creativity and exuberant beauty. Here are few of my favorites below, enjoy!
