Soca Slay - Trinidad &Tobago; Carnival Costumes 2019

Growing up as a child in the Caribbean I loved watching Carnival.  The parade and performances were great but I marveled at the intricate designs of the costumes. Since then, I've watched Caribbean Carnival Costumes evolve to being even more intricate and innovative. Playing Mas - dancing and marching in costume during the parade - to celebrate history and heritage is now intertwined with making a powerful fashion statement with your costume. Many of these costumes are handmade and take weeks to complete.

The Trinidad & Tobago Carnival is one of the worlds most renowned carnivals and the annual parade took place this past Monday.  As expected, the costume designs show skill, creativity and exuberant beauty. Here are few of my favorites below, enjoy!

Five Ageless Beauties Who Are Winning the "Age Challenge"

Almost everyone is participating in the #Howharddidaginghityou challenge on social media. While I've seen different versions of the challenge, the most common one is to post a photo of yourself from 10 years ago and a current photo. The point of the challenge is to compare the two photos and comment on whether or how you've changed. It's been interesting to watch people show and share their physical, spiritual and mental transition. Yea for growth!

Below I'm sharing photos of five black women who seem to defy aging - let's call them ageless beauties. They are walking definitions of 'black don't crack," and if they could bottle their secrets and sell it, most of us would be buying. To answer the challenge's question, "How hard did aging hit them?"  Not so much.

Black Girl Magic...WOW!

I was wowed when I saw this photo on blogger, Dee's Instagram. This is the kind of beauty and magic than can take place when black creatives get together. The bloggers pictured below brought color,  fierceness and style.

In the photo caption, Dee wrote "I want our children to grow top KNOWING that black girls are colorful, and strong, and smart, and stylish, and magic, and WOW." I love it. See more beautiful photos on Dee's instagram account
