Who Wears Short Shorts?

Spring is here! The weather, here in DC, has been a consistent 70 degrees or better for quite a few days now. If you are familiar with the area you know what that means; brunch season is in full effect. While Sunday brunch and sundresses seem to go together like orange juice and champagne, let us not forget that there are alternatives to brunch fashions. While I am a dress lover, my long legs sometimes like to be shown off in a nice pair of shorts. Below I will illustrate what I consider acceptable and unacceptable Sunday brunch short shorts.

Acceptable

1)    The Boy Short

I call these boy shorts because they are baggy at the waist and also along the legs. Rhianna is seen below rocking her boy shorts with a white tee, a red leather jacket, and the ever so comfortably high top Chuck Taylors. This outfit says, I did it up last night and I just want to relax while I sip my Belini and eat my Chicken & Waffles.

2)      Booty Shorts
Not to be confused with batty riders or pump um shorts, both of which are unacceptable, booty shorts give full coverage of the assets. As such, they are fully welcomed at Sunday brunch.  Below, Brandy rocks black, leather, booty shorts with a white, button down, sleeveless shirt and platform shoes. Her outfit is comfy and sassy. It says let’s do brunch and hang out a little after.

Unacceptable

1)      Batty Riders
It has come to my attention that unless you are of Caribbean decent, or happen to live in a place like Brooklyn, NY you may have never heard of the term batty riders. As such, many people across the nation confuse these shorts with booty shorts. But, as I stated earlier, while booty shorts are acceptable brunch attire, batty riders are not! In fact, save the batty riders for Bike Week, Caribana, or as a cover up at the beach. Below, Rhianna shows off her assets in a pair of batty riders. Please be mindful she was at a photoshoot not headed to brunch.

2)      Pum Pum Shorts

Pum Pum shorts are the short shorts of all short shorts. And like their slightly longer counterpart, the batty rider, they are completely and utterly not welcomed at Sunday brunch. In fact, I dare to say the only time pum pum shorts are acceptable is if you work as a dancer, no not the ballet type, the type T Pain is in love with. Or when you are playing one, in the comforts of your home, for your man. To see a photo of pum pum shorts click HERE.

Now you have been advised. You are welcomed to join me on U Street Corridor for brunch on any given Sunday. Well, as long as you are following my advice. Lol.

Fros and Beaus: Celebrating Natural Hair and Love

My new favorite Instagram page, Fros & Beaus, combines two things I adore: natural hair and love. The natural hair movement is important for a variety of reasons, one being that it challenges limited beauty ideals. In challenging those ideals, many women have wondered how natural hair would affect their dating prospects. Pages like Fros & Beaus put those concerns to rest as it celebrates the beauty of natural hair and highlights the men who love and support women who choose to embrace their natural curls and kinks.

Check out the page, you're bound to love it!
