My Black is Beautiful

*Hey Lovelies, It's my pleasure to introduce Tiana, Faces of Black Fashion's newest contributing blogger. You can learn more about Tiana here. Enjoy her first post below!

Some people may not always feel like the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice, not even the women who bare this beautiful skin tone. It took me years to get comfortable in my own skin. Media drowns you with images of fair skinned women & portrayed that as being beautiful, all the while not realizing somewhere in the world a little black girl questions if she is beautiful, because of the color of her skin.

There was a time in my life when wearing lipstick of any color was out of the question, I simply was not confident enough to pull it off. How many women do you think wake up and tell themselves just that, I'm not good enough! We most remember everything is not for everyone, some fair skinned women do not look right in certain colors. We should not be afraid to at least try something new in spite of ourselves. Below I show you some of my favorite lip colors that I think would compliment women with a darker skin tone.

*Note: 1st picture the color is Cherry Pickings by Wet N Wild
2nd picture the color is Mocha-Licious by Wet N Wild
3rd picture the color is Rebel by Mac

I challenge you to step outside your box and try something new, you just might like it!

  1. Amazing post! What you said is so true! I love my dark skin, but I wasn't always comfortable in it either.I used to hate when people would say dark-skinned girls can't wear bright or colorful makeup, only natural earthy colors. The first time I got my makeup done professionally, it was by a lovely Black woman who convinced me to try a blue eye shadow. I was literally crying when she was done because it looked so beautiful. Thanks for the post and being so honest!

    2. Thank you love. I realized there were too many beautiful women of color afraid to step outside of the box based on what the media portrays as beauty. I would love to live in a world where all women felt and looked their best. One step at a time, we will get there. Glad you enjoyed the post.

  2. The colors definitely flatter you so well! :)

*I try to spread that message through blogging and making videos as well - you are beautiful no matter what and if we (women) could start believing that about ourselves, society will have no choice but to accept it as well.

    2. Thank you Maggie, It is our duty to lift each other up. Women don't understand how much we tear each other down and for what?? I would rather show love than hate any day. I am glad you enjoyed the post. Continue to be that light, we need it.
