Introducing: Simply Chic

There are some bloggers I consider my friends in my head, SimplyChic is one of them. Maybe it's because she's such a sweetheart, and she let's you in with her posts. Maybe it's because her style is simply fabulous. Or, maybe it's because we are both grad students with a love for fashion/style. Whatever it is, I consider SimplyChic my blogger friend, and I am so honored to feature her!!!  Introducing Simply Chic

So tell us more about yourself, who is SimplyChic?
I am a former assistant shoe buyer and a current graduate student studying Integrated Marketing Communications. I love to travel, write, laugh, walk (or sit) in the park, take naps and the one thing I love more than clothes/shopping is food.

How did you get your start in blogging, why a style blog?
I was literally sitting in my bed looking at other style blogs on an uneventful Friday night. It never even dawned on me that I could start my own because I thought of my style as pretty well put together, but simple, and probably not something worth documenting. Well that was until the name Simply Chic hit me like a ton of bricks. I loved the name, knew it suited me and my style and here we are. Long story short, I got my start all because of the name.

How would you describe your style?
As I said before and as the title of my blog states, simple and chic. Simple doesn't mean boring. I LOVE color and prints and neither of these are boring.  For me, simple and chic means I love basic pieces I can dress up with a great shoe, necklace, bag etc. It means I live and die for blazers in all colors which lends itself to instant chicness. I love dresses, especially in a great print, because a lot of times I don't want to put together a whole outfit to look interesting. O and I love scarves! They are the simplest way to be chic.

What are three must haves a woman needs for her closet?
Just 3? That’s tough. A grey blazer, well fitting jeans and a pair of funky heels

What trends are you looking forward to trying this fall?
Red, in particular red dresses, leather pants, skirts with slits in the front, and nude/brown nail polish.

Who are your style icons?
I get much of my inspiration from fellow style bloggers but I do like seeing how petite celebs like Miroslava Duma and Jada Pinkett Smith dress their bodies. And I'm currently obsessed with Solange’s style. It's more eclectic than mine, but she still inspires me. I love how she really owns her looks.

Anything else?

Thank you for wanting to feature me. I love the concept of this blog.  Sometimes it seems like black bloggers don’t get the respect & attention we deserve so this is such a nice way to pay homage and bring us together!

Style and Grace: Angela Bassett

I always loved Angela Bassett, I think it's because it some ways she reminds me of my mother - dignified, graceful, poised and stylish. I think this is a great video that showcases her style and grace.
